Harlow and the surrounding area is a great place to live with lots of activities available, beautiful walks by the river or through wooded areas, good access to London and all it has to offer as well as the adjoining counties.

The U3A is a self-help learning organisation for the active retired. It is made up of independent groups run by their members. Members are normally retired or semi-retired from paid employment, and wish to use their skills and experience to pass on to others, or try some new hobbies for themselves. Everyone who is on the committee, runs one of the groups or helps at monthly meetings are volunteers. Getting involved is a great way to make new friends and to know what is happening within the group. To find out more about the history and ethos of the U3A go to the national website www.u3a.org.uk

Harlow and Surrounding Areas U3A was formed in January 2008 and we currently have over 835 paid up members and around 75 various interest groups. As the membership increases, so do our groups. We also have a bi-monthly newsletter which can be downloaded from this website (see column on the right) here on the Welcome Page or Links and can be picked up at our monthly meetings.

The Newsletters will be published for the rest of 2014 as follows:
End November, issue December-January 2015
For 2015 the dates will be:
End January, issue February-March
End March, issue April-May
End May, issue June-July
End July, issue August-September
End September, issue October-November
End November, issue December - January 2016

It is essential to become a member if you wish to join a group activity. This is for insurance purposes and to ensure that no one is placed on a waiting list before they are actually a member. You will be asked by the facilitator to show your membership card when you first attend a group.

To join, please contact our Membership Secretary, Jo Keyes on 01920 420458 or e-mail us through the contacts page and she will send you an application form. Please include an SAE, no smaller than A5, when you send in your cheque and completed application form. Jo will then send you your membership card and joining information. Our year runs from 1st April to 31st March. Annual membership from April 2014 to March 2015 will be £13.50 for all. Joint Membership for husband and wife will be £27 thus all our members will pay the same.
