Gravesend and Northfleet is in Northwest Kent, England, on the South Bank of the Thames, opposite Tilbury in Essex. To the South it is surrounded by the beautiful countryside of the North Downs, which has many attractive villages.
Gravesend U3A was formed in 2003 and is a group of around 200 local people. We are a self-financing, self learning organisation for anyone no longer in full time employment. There is a general meeting once a month to which everyone is entitled to be present. It is here that we meet old friends and make new ones in an informal, relaxed atmosphere over tea or coffee and a biscuit, where business, social and a speaker make up the order of the meeting. It is friendly and convivial and, for many people, it is the focal point of the calendar. Everyone is welcomed and new members quickly find others with similar interests. All interest group meetings take place in member's homes unless otherwise stated.
We hold monthly meetings on the second Friday of each month at 2pm at Chalk Parish Hall, Lower Higham Road, Chalk, DAl2 2ND (adjacent to Pirrip Close, near the Junction of Lower Higham Road and Chalk Road). Our meetings last approximately two hours, which normally include a speaker. Bus services stop nearby and there is parking at the hall and in the surrounding roads.
